Site Dedication; In Loving Memory of; Julie Adams/Kitchen
Julie Adams, Bancroft, Kitchen; born. Sedalia, Mo. December 1961 - February 2017 (Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother) Bright, Creative, Free Spirit. Julie (my younger sister) and I had many long discussions about this frightening prospect she was living through. She was completely blindsided by this diagnosis. She reached out to me, and asked if I'd come stay with her. To be with her. To help see her and her husband Dave through this terrible trauma. You just don't realize how wonderful you can be as a "care giver" until you have it thrust upon you. Dave became just that. In short order. A tried and true, loving husband with only his wife's care first and foremost in is heart. A honorable testament to husbands everywhere.
As heaven would allow, I was in a position professionally to bring my work with me through the cloud based platform on line. (another new modern feature that supplies family members and friends the ability to move about more freely.) I dropped everything I was doing and raced to her side. A thing I was thankful I could do, living some 100 miles away. Around November 2016, one of our discussions turned to what she thought her legacy would be. What she would leave behind that made a difference to people. "It has to be something very special." She remarked. Of course we thought about it and thought about it.
I would throw suggestions at her and she would poopoo them. The ideas we came up with didn't help enough people. I asked her how many people she thought she could help? She returned, "By myself, only a few I suppose. But together with my brother - the whole world!" She smiled at me, silently handing me my challenge.
We summed up the difficulties she was having with Doctors, Nurses, Techs, Oncologists, Emergency Room visits, ER Staff mannerisms, second and third opinions, as well as the financial aspects of treatment that cancer causes a family to live through. And oh to mention fundamental counseling for her, her family. And even her close friends. We spent many hours and days visiting the vast number of sites that folks can go to for these things. (We searched them all I think) That's when she had an Idea. "What if I could help people save some of this precious time they have left. Time we're spending searching for help? If we could consolidate all of this information to a central location. A place where folks suffering through this can go to get the answers they need quickly?" (she was on to something there) We left it at that and began our focus on her and the rest of her life. My little sister fought hard through the holidays that year and became my Christmas miracle. She had lived far beyond the doctor's best guess. But finally fell to cancer in the last days of February 2017. The last thing she said to me the night before she passed, "You have a lot of work to do. Guess you better get busy." The morning of her passing, I held her hand while she lay there. I recalled a very bold statement she had told me early on in our tragedy. She was coming to terms with the fact that even though she was in treatment and held boldly to THE FIGHT, she realized she would eventually lose to cancer. She said to me, "I want to do something that will continue to battle cancer long after I'm gone. If Cancer's going to kill me, I want to -
